Jessica is running out Leukemia one mile at a time!
Suppose there were 10 children on a sinking ship, and you could only fit 8 into the last lifeboat.
Which 2 would you leave behind? That’s the problem we’re facing with childhood leukemia. Thanks to research, 8 out of 10 kids with the most common form of leukemia will survive. But 2 won’t. That’s unacceptable to their families, to us, and to you. Help us reach our goal. Dear Friend, I just wanted to let you know that I’m still training hard for the Maui Marathon and striving to reach my commitment of $5000 for leukemia & lymphoma research! So far I have run 250 miles and raised $4500! I hope you will join me in my battle to save all the children in the lifeboat by writing a check to the leukemia and lymphoma society. Thanks, Jessica Nitsche Please print a donation form and mail to 1971 SW 37th terrace, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33312. No donation is too large or too small! 5/5/03 Has Jesssica gone crazy? I have begun the long and grueling --but rewarding---process of training for the Maui Marathon. Yes, that's right I did say MARATHON. No I have not gone crazy! On September 21st, 2003, I will be running the Maui Marathon. While you may think I have gone crazy wanting to run 26.2 miles, the cause is well worth it! I have joined the South Florida chapter of Team In Training, an endurance training program of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. While completing the marathon is my physical goal, my principal goal is to raise $5000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The mission of the LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients. Its been very interesting learning about this disease and the advances made in research. So far I have learned that: * Leukemia is the #1 killer of children, and its strikes ten times the number of adults. * Every day in the US 300 people are diagnosed with leukemia and related diseases. * Every 10 minutes another child or adult dies from these diseases * Leukemia research is considered the 'window' to treatment and cure for ALL CANCERS. I am running, in honor of Vonda Sticker, a 62-year-old woman diagnosed with a form of Leukemia known as CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) in 1990. She is undergoing lifelong treatments and enjoys spending time with her 16 grandchildren. She would like to tell everyone donating to the society "May God Bless you life and health; for all the good you are doing for the many people with leukemia." Please join me in this great challenge. I hope that you will help me in my commitment to raise $5000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Every donation matters and is 100% tax deductible. Click on the link to donate! Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. |
